Prof. Weizhao Zhang

Lab Director, PhD, Associate Professor

Prof Weizhao Zhang received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2014 and his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern University in 2019. He joined CUHK afterwards with research focus on development of advanced manufacturing processes for high-performance composite parts using both experimental and numerical modeling approaches.

Jianchao Zou

Dr. Jian-Chao Zou obtained his Ph.D. degree in Solid Mechanics from Dalian University of Technology in 2021. Dr. Zou has received well training in the field of composite material mechanics, computational mechanics, and experimental mechanics during his study periods of master and PhD. To be specific, he is experienced with deep learning, numerical modeling and simulation, and structural health monitoring.

Mengfei Feng

Dr. Feng Mengfei obtained a Ph.D. degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Manufacturing Engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical University in 2025. His research mainly focuses on the design and fabrication of electromagnetic functional composites. During his doctoral study periods, he has worked on multiple aircraft-related projects.

Jisiyuan Cheng

Dr. Jisiyuan Cheng received her PhD degree in Aerospace Vehicle Manufacturing Engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical University. Her research interests lie in advanced manufacturing, numerical simulation, and performance evaluation of composite structures. She focuses on understanding the mechanisms and evolution of manufacturing-induced defects and their effects on the loading-bearing capabilities.

Yueying Chen

Before joining Advanced Manufacturing Composites Lab in 2024 as part-time Ph.D student, Yueying is a senior engineer III in Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Limited and worked in polymer materials field for over 8 years. She obtained her master degree in material science from City University of Hong Kong (2015)

Yubo Hu

Yubo received his B.S. degree from China University of Geoscience（Beijing） and M.S. degree from Beihang University. His former research focused on structure health monitoring and resin matrix composite design. He will join AMCL lab. in fall 2024 as a ph. D. student.

Gan Li

Gan obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Beijing Institute of Technology. His previous research focused on multiscale simulation and data mining for metal materials. He joined the Advanced Composites Manufacturing Lab in April 2026. His current research focuses on the development of VUEL and VUMAT for composite forming simulation and the development of composite manufacturing agents.

Lei Hao

Lei Hao obtained his B.S. degree from China University of Petroleum (East China) and his M.S. degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. His previous research focused on lightning strike protection of composite materials and functional resin-based nanocomposites. He will join the lab in fall 2026 as a Ph.D. student.
